Manchester City's manager Expresses Regret Over Broadcast Crew Incident Following Defeat to Magpies

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following an exchange with a camera operator subsequent to the Citizens' loss at Newcastle on Saturday.

At full time, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, looking back. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I defend any team and my club, without a doubt. Why I want to defend my team is clear – based on my career to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," he conceded. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk discuss four trophies last winter during our historic run? No."

Interaction with Guimarães

On the subject of his talk with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, we converse. We often meet and I always have a good relationship. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it's fine," he said, before referencing Barrott. "The referee was involved throughout the match, constantly. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that Barrott or the VAR denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, while they also questioned Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

Guardiola will take charge of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, it means that every season annually," he commented.

The club has ten points after four games of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
